Stating Prefences
Simple Preferences: Like/Love/Enjoy: These verbs are used for positive preferences. "I like coffee." "I love chocolate." "I enjoy reading." You can also use "I like to..." or "I love to..." "I like to swim." "I love to travel." Dislike/Hate/Detest: These express negative preferences. "I dislike spicy food." "I hate traffic." "I detest dishonesty." Similarly, you can use "I dislike to..." or "I hate to..." "I dislike to be late." (Though "I dislike being late" is more common.) Prefer: This verb is used to compare two things. "I prefer tea to coffee." "I prefer reading to watching TV." You can also use "I prefer to..." "I prefer to walk than to take the bus."
