The modal verbs are:

We use modals to show if we believe something is certain, possible or impossible:
My books must be in the car.
It might rain next week.
That can't be Adam's shoes. It's too small.
We also use them to do things like talk about ability, ask permission, and make requests and offers:
He can't swim.
May I open the windows?
Could I have some cake, please?
Would you like to go to a movie?
